Dear Sangha Members,

As COVID-19 continues to spread at a rapid rate, Empty Bowl Zendo is joining other community groups in helping to curb its proliferation by temporarily closing the zendo for the next three weeks starting Tuesday, March 17 and hopefully re-opening Tuesday, April 7.  During that time, we will re-evaluate the April opening depending on how things are progressing in the general population.  This means cancelling the sesshin, calligraphy, dharma circle and regular zazen on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

In the meantime, we are looking into such options as virtual sittings and a running blog.

Until then, although we will not be able to access the physical space of the zendo, the sangha always lives in our hearts.  We can continue to sit together in our seemingly separate abodes at the very same times we sit at the zendo…anywhere from 6:30 – 8:15pm on a Tuesday night or 7:00 – 8:00am on a Wednesday or Thursday morning.  Knowing that others are there with us gives us the support we need to maintain and grow our practice. This could be a wonderful time of reflection on the interconnectedness of all beings, what we have in common, on the fragility of life, and our responsibility for ourselves and to the whole.

We will be back in touch when we have something set regarding blog for sangha members or on-line zazen. In addition, we will send out a notice about available times for on-line daisan for anyone who would like it during these stressful times.
