2018 Empty Bowl Zen Community Annual Year End Letter

The zendo is a place of receiving.  Starting with the very basic act of receiving the breath, we learn to receive and let go of our thoughts and feelings, our suffering and joys.  Sitting together with sangha brothers and sisters, we receive support and encouragement in our practice. Through dharma talks and interviews with our teachers, we become curious about how we live our lives and wonder who we truly are.  Ultimately we learn to receive and accept ourselves just as we are moment by moment.

The balance of nature requires that we pass on to others what we have received so that the cycle of life continues to benefit everyone everywhere.  We possess nothing. Everything passes through us, changes and manifests in an alternate form as it gets passed on. It is in this spirit of interbeing that we ask for your financial support so that we may continue to provide a sacred space for weekly meditation, monthly half day intensives and quarterly retreats.   The Buddha taught: “If you knew as I know the benefit of generosity, you would not let an opportunity go by without sharing. The donor, before giving, is glad; while giving, is inspired; and after giving, is gratified.” In giving we receive, and the cycle continues on.  If we look deeply, we see that giving and receiving are one and the same.

With grateful appreciation,

Michele Keido Daniels, Sensei
