Empty Bowl Zendo logo

calendar & events

As you know, Ango is a time for deepening practice, perhaps by sitting every day, for example. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to formalize your practice intention by writing it on a small piece of paper and putting it in the intention bowl we are keeping on the altar for the duration of Ango. You could do this when you first bow to the altar before sitting at your cushion for first period, or perhaps at the end of kinhin. Approach the altar, bow, add your intention to the bowl, then bow again before sitting at your cushion.

In case you can't make it to the zendo, you can listen to teachings on our audio Tab. The latest teaching added is Michele Daniel's April 18th talk on the Firewood and Ash section of the Genjokoan.

Our theme for Ango is Dogen's essay "Gengokoan". LINK HERE to read a translation of the essay. There are also copies of Dogen's Genjokoan including Maezumi Roshi's commentary in the zendo closet. Please feel free to take a copy for study.
